Workwhile Design Talks: Made Real

  • The Hoxton Amsterdam 255 Herengracht Amsterdam, NH, 1016 BJ Netherlands (map)

On Monday 29th October, we're proud to welcome our speaker all the way from London: Mark Paton, Creative Partner of Here Design will join us for a conversation about the importance of physicality in design in the digital age.

Despite the all-encompassing dominance of digital communications, we are seeing an ever growing sensitivity to physicality in design. Maybe, in response to rising screen time, people are seeking physical experiences as a counterpoint to redress the balance. The counter-intuitive rise of vinyl records, and enduring commercial success of cook books are just two examples of this dynamic at play – they are functionally redundant yet still desired. In this talk Mark will explore whether this observation holds true and consider the implications for different design disciplines.

Mark is a graphic designer and one of the founders of Here Design. Over the last twelve years he and his partners have built a studio that is dedicated to the craft of good design by integrating thinking, writing, designing and making. The structure of the studio has grown organically to support the needs of their clients, and allow them to act as a design partner from the inception of an idea to the production of the ultimate physical expression. As a studio that works across an unusually wide range of project types, from local restaurants to cook books, international brands and beyond, they have a broad perspective on how we see the role of design, and how it is changing.
